What is a jumbo loan?

A jumbo loan is a mortgage with a loan amount above the conforming loan limit set each year by the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) for loans that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac can purchase. For 2026, FHFA's baseline conforming loan limit for a one-unit property in most of the U.S. is $832,750. High-cost counties can have higher limits. Always confirm the limit that applies to your county and property type.
